Port Tour

Three of the Urban Sketchers Tacoma admins took a bus tour of the Port of Tacoma today.  Though it didn’t include the public access points where we might be able to sketch in future, it was still very interesting.  Because we were on the bus, we could take photos.  All are here.

I did a quick, small sketch at one of the long stops.

Notes from the tour, given by Carolla:

Port founded in 1918.  Tacoma is #3 for activity in the USA. It covers 24,000 acres. Grain is the #1 commodity shipped from the port, most of which is oats.

Stratocarriers move the individual containers. The driver sits sideways.

If you guys decide to sketch there, I’d like to join you… looks like some great stuff to sketch.

We won’t be able to sketch at any of the locations pictured on today’s tour. But we will be getting the map of the public access points and do plan to arrange for sketching at one or some of those.
