Chinese New Year

I went to see the Lion dance for Chinese New Year at Renton Uwajimaya.  For those not familiar with the area, Uwajimaya is small, local family owned chain of Japanese groceries.

Along with a martial arts demo, it was performed by Seattle International Lion Dance Team, Ying Yung Tong Lion Dance Team & Master Tony Au’s Martial Arts Team.

I arrived early, hoping to catch the company preparing so I could sketch them before they were moving around much.  But they were performing in two other venues so didn’t arrive very early.  I sketched the Lion mask display in the store instead.  Next to it is the head of the dragon that hangs in the store all the time.
