Friends and more sun

It’s another beautiful day!  I did a few errands in the morning and then met some friends for lunch.  We three used to work together and are now all retired.  We meet about once a month at a different location.  We met at one of my favorite places in Renton, the Whistle Stop Ale House. I was there early and did a sketch.  I got the ink drawing done while there and colored it after I got home.   They have a couple bikes hanging from the ceiling.  I’m not sure why, other than it might have something to do with Fat Tire ale.  They have so many beers on tap.  The food is really delicious, too.

It was such a sunny, warm afternoon I sat in my backyard and sketched the wildly yellow forsythia in bloom.  It reaches almost to the second story.  I tried the Kate Johnson technique of spraying the paper before tapping in color.  I think I sprayed a little too much as it spread more than I wanted.  It’s a learning process.

I really like the second sketch. It is so cheerful, warm and full of sun. It is great to know that at least somewhere there are signs of spring. 🙂
