Oak & new paper

New book, new paper, new technique.  Painted a leaf and acorns I picked up.  This is a new 10×7 inch Arches spiral bound 140 lb. watercolor paper book.  I’d tried an arches sketch book before and didn’t like it.  This is a different sort of book and has hard covers.  It is expensive: $27 for 15 sheets!  One of the artists doing a demo at Daniel Smith said this was here favorite paper.   It’s an odd size.  Too small to “paint to the mat” size of 8×10.  I did figure out I can get two 5×7’s side by side on one page.  Amazon calls it the Arches Field Watercolor Book and charges $23.

I also tried the splatter technique Peggy H. showed us on Friday.  A wet brush is used on a water color pencil to tap off color into a splatter.  It is much more easily controlled and splatters where I want it rather than all over.
