The rat girls

As I mentioned in my previous post, I kept rats for many years.  Here is the group from the mid-1990’s, sketched from an old photo.  The black and white one, Panda, was the smartest one I ever knew.  She knew her name and would come when called!  She also escaped from her cage.

The Rex was a very fancy rat….she even had pedigree papers.  She was also nasty.  She was the only rat who regularly bit me.  We came to suspect she was hard of hearing and couldn’t see well.  Hence, when I put my hand in the cage to pick her up, she was startled and bit out of self defense.

At various times in my life, I’ve had mice, gerbils, a guinea pig and a rabbit, but I’ve never had a rat. I’ve heard they are really smart, though.
