Third time is the charm

I took a friend from Portland to see Drawn to Seattle at MOHAI today.  This was my 3rd trip there and the first time I actually went through Gabi’s exhibit slowly, sketch by sketch, reading all the cards.  It impressed me again how wonderful it is and so beautifully designed.  There are so many places in Seattle about which I would not know except for these excellent drawings and the articles that go with them.

While my friend went through the rest of the museum, I did two sketches.  This first was out the window of the 4th floor periscope room.  I see just the tops of the masts of a ship moored next to the museum.  On the masts are 2 cormorants.  I usually don’t remember much from my birding days, but that name came to mind and I just verified it is probably correct.  I started the sketch and then went to view Gabi’s exhibit.  I returned an hour later to finish it and the birds were exactly where they were when I left.

I’ve drawn the Toe Truck before.  Today I sketched it from a different angle, with more view of the toes.
