August Adventure Days 1 & 2

Decided today, a day late, to join in the August Doodlewash Adventure.  I don’t know whether I’ll really do every day but I’ll do some.  It’s to be a daily list of favorite things. There are some categories in which I do not really have an opinion.

Yesterday, August 1, was “Favorite Dessert”.  Definitely German Cheesecake.  It is very had to get in the USA.  It differs from American, or New York style, in that it is less sweet and tastes more of cheese.  Fortunately, the baker at the Stonehouse Bakery knows how to make it!  So I have a source now.  I just can’t avail myself of it too often.

This from a photo I found on the internet, since I do not have a cheesecake at home now!

Today’s item is “Favorite Childhood Toy.”    I picked the one to which I had easiest access.  This is a very worn, much repaired doll.  I’m not sure what it originally was… I think there used to be a face!  Aha… I found a photo of myself with the doll.  I am about 6 months old here.  I remember this doll went everywhere with me, hence why it is so worn.

It’s sitting in a small cradle my father made.  He was a very good amateur carpenter.  Over the course of my childhood, he made many toys for me.  At an older age, a spring horse he carved would have been my favorite, but it was harder to get to from where it is stored.   This cradle was cleverly crafted in that it could be turned over and used as a seat.
