Day 4: day trip to Banff

We drove the scenic Bow Valley Parkway to Banff.  We took several scenic turn
outs.  I did a sketch at the Castle Cliffs.

Our first stop just outside of Banff was the Cave and Basin hot springs, which
was Canada’s first National Park.

Once we arrived in Banff, we walked around town.  It was Pride Week.  They painted the corners in the same way Capitol Hill does in Seattle!

I bought a Tolmie bear!   Dr. Tolmie was in charge of Fort Nisqually, which was a Hudson’s Bay Company installation.  I’m a volunteer for Fort Nisqually and was really quite interested to shop at the modern Hudson’s Bay Company.  They had so many items in the colors of the HBC traditional blanket!  I only bought a pair of socks.

We had dinner at the Banff Springs Hotel’s Waldhaus, which was a bit of a hike up a hill! It was Austrian & German cuisine.  We were both happy that Jäger Schnitzel was on the menu!  Haven’t had a good one since we were regulars at Annalisa’s in Belmont Shore, CA (over 15 years ago)!  This one was good, but I prefer a brown mushroom sauce to the cream sauce offered at the Waldhaus.
