Social birches

Today was another “Social Watercolor” at Daniel Smith mothership.   The topic was “keeping your whites”.  I already know about using mask.  Jodi provided some photos of birch trees with which to practice.  I’d also brought a couple projects but decided to do this, too.  Tried a sample of watercolor paper, too.

My project was this portrait of Lin-Manuel Miranda as Hamilton.  A couple weeks ago I watched PBS’s Great Performances which featured “Hamilton’s America“.  It combined scenes from the show, interviews with Miranda and  cast members, visits to locations from Hamilton’s life and commentary by others.  I found it fascinating and wanted to do a sketch to commemorate it.  I found a photo via image search, so this is definitely not my original.  I have simply adapted it in watercolor and ink.
