It was another beautiful, warm-ish, summer day. Dropped Himself off on campus for his 2nd day of LinuxFest.
I’d been to Boulevard Park yesterday but it was too crowded. I thought that at 0930 Sunday it might be better and it was. I sat inside Woods Cafe as it was still rather chilly. I sketched my view out the window.
More wandering around town. Went to the campus of WWU and left again without sketching. Couldn’t find the courtyard I saw in 2014 nor the visitor parking.
So I moved on to the interesting neighborhood of Fairhaven. I visited several unique shops. Then I settled down in the town square to sketch one of the sculptures. Daniel Jefferson Harris aka “Dirty Dan”. He lived 1833-1890 and was the founder of Fairhaven. http://www.dan-harris.info/ (site has sound so be warned). The sobriquet, “Dirty Dan”, was acquired from his appearance in soiled clothing and lack of personal hygiene. His reputation as a colorful character of distinctive qualities was based on his many seriocomic exploits. (source: http://www.fairhavenhistory.com/content/characters/dirty_dan_harris.asp).
I had a delightful lunch as afternoon tea at the Abbey Garden Tea House.
After a bit more wandering around, I went to pick up Himself. Low and behold he’d won some items in the final raffle, including a Raspberry Pi 3. He was pleased with that.
Arrived home about 1830 after again listening to “Hidden Brain” podcast all the way.
