Tail on a Truck

The stars aligned. I’d called Historic Flight yesterday and the very helpful Vanessa told me the tail is off the B-52 and is on a truck. Today was beautiful, clear, spring like weather.  After some indecision, I determined I’d better go up and see it.  My main goal is to get there when the wings are off and on the truck but this seemed a good opportunity for an intermediary sketch.

First I made a side trip to the Museum of Flight main campus in Seattle just to make sure the tail hadn’t been trucked down overnight. I left early and made it to Paine Field in Everett by about 0900, even with the detour. There it was, the view of the scene I’d hoped to get. It couldn’t have been any better!  I photographed and sketched through the fence at the gate.

Done in a 9×12 Montval sketchbook.
