Five Seattle Urban Sketchers got together today in downtown Seattle to sketch some holiday scenes.
I took the bus into the city and arrived quite early. I had actually planned this. I don’t frequent coffee shops in my home area so I decided to have my breakfast today at one so I could sketch a contribution to this week’s Urban Sketchers theme, “Tea and Coffee”. I stopped in at Caffe Migliore (“It means ‘best’ in Italian”) in the Financial Center. My breakfast and large cup of coffee:
Tina, Carleen, Peggy, Nilda and I met first at the Fairmont Olympic Hotel to sketch the Teddy Bear Suite. Carleen and I were there early so we both sketched the Santa statue in the lower lobby.
When the rest arrived we hung out in the lobby, sketched and talked for a few minutes.
Sketching the Teddy Bear suite didn’t work out so well. It is not very large and it was full of small children. We walked through just to see it and then moved on. This is the hallway entry area. It is far too crowded.
Our next venue was the Gingerbread Village at the Sheraton Hotel. This was not just a village, it was a series of huge castles! I have some photos of them in a post from last week (see 27 November). We settled in comfortable chairs in a part of the lobby looking on to the back of the castles. I sketched the Beauty and the Beast Castle.
Before we all left, we took the now traditional Urban Sketchers photos of our sketchbooks and the sketchers:
All in all we agreed it was a fun time and that we would arrange another outing on a Friday in January. Stay tuned on the Seattle USK Google group. I’ll post a message there.
Great sketches and photos, Kate! A very fun mini sketchcrawl.
